Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis kesalahan dan penyebab terjadinya kesalahan peserta didik dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika menggunakan assessment diagnostic. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMP Negeri 46 Palembang dengan subjek 33 peserta didik kelas VIII. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif. Adapun teknik pengumpulan data yan digunakan adalah pemberian tes tertulis, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Analisis kesalahan berdasarkan teori Newman. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peserta didik melakukan 5 kesalahan dalam menyelesaikan assessment diagnostic berdasarkan teori Newman, yaitu kesalahan membaca sebesar 25,11%, kesalahan memahami sebesar 35,68%, kesalahan transformasi sebesar 48,88%, kesalahan keterampilan proses sebesar 70,40%, dan kesalahan penulisan jawaban akhir sebesar 81,17%. Penyebab kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut disebabkan rendahnya kemampuan peserta didik dalam membaca simbol, tidak memahami informasi yang ada pada soal, kurang tepat dalam mengaplikasikan rumus/teori dalam langkah-langkah penyelesaian soal, ketidaktelitian peserta didik dalam mengoperasikan bilangan, dan tidak paham dalam menentukan strategi dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika.
