Abstract

As one of the largest agricultural countries in the world, the Indonesian people have a crucial role in driving the economy of the agricultural sector in Indonesia. To support the sustainability of this agricultural sector, an important aspect to be considered is the availability of water resources. One of the efforts to meet water needs is the use of water pumps. The type of water pump commonly used today is a water pump powered by electrical energy or fuel. Of course, there are many problems in rural and remote areas where there is no electricity or the economy is weak. Therefore, a pump is needed to support water availability. An alternative to electric or other fuel-powered pumps is a hydraulic ram pump. The purpose of this study is to develop and manufacture a hydraulic ram pump model to meet the water needs of rice fields and to maximise the efficiency of hydraulic ram pumps. The research was conducted in Belitang District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. The average input flow rate in this study is 0.089 litres/second. The inlet head of the hydraulic ram pump is 0.5 metres with an outlet head of 3.5 metres. The length of the inlet pipe used is 10 metres. For the hydraulic pump used, a 1" diameter PVC pipe is used for the inlet pipe and pump body, while a 4" diameter PVC pipe is used for the air hose. A 5/8 inch diameter hose is used for the output. From the test results carried out, an average flow rate of 0.005146 litres/second was obtained, with the highest efficiency reaching 41.67%.
