Abstract

Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) is a disease with high morbidity rate each year with total case number in Puskesmas Indralaya 5.592 cases in 2016.URTI’s transmission is affected by important factors, Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) such as temperature, humidity, Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS), total colony microbe and also affected by individual characteristics such as birthweight,nutritional status, and exclusive breastfeeding. The aim of this study is to find out related factors with infant URTI’s incidence in Puskesmas Indralaya, Ogan Ilir district work region. This study used case control design with total sample of 28 infants in case group and 56 infants in control group. This study used cluster to picked out the sample by simple random sampling method. There are 6 variables correlated to infant URTI’s incidence, that is temperature (OR: 9,061), humidity (OR: 29), Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) (OR: 9), total colony microbe (OR: 47,667), birthweight (OR: 9,167), and exclusive breastfeeding (OR: 9). However, nutritional status (OR: 4,5) was not correlated to infant URTI’s incidence. Birthweight (OR: 57,094) is the most dominant factor to infant URTI’s incidence, so the community is expected to prevent the occurence of low birthweight and to maintain the indoor air quality to prevent growth and progression of internal pathogen.
