Abstract
This research aims to analyze the coping strategies employed by visually impaired individuals who are patients at the Pertuni Jaya Massage Clinic in Kenten, Palembang, particularly during the development of the modern fish market and the COVID-19 pandemic. The study also applies Edi Suharto's theory. The research methodology utilized a purposive method, involving 10 informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the coping strategies adopted by visually impaired individuals in circumstances encompassing socioeconomic conditions, education, side jobs, income levels, and active and passive strategies in response to economic changes. The findings revealed significant changes in the socioeconomic conditions of visually impaired individuals at the Pertuni Jaya Massage Clinic in Kenten, Palembang, during the development of the modern fish market and the COVID-19 pandemic. The visually impaired individuals in this study implemented various coping strategies. These strategies included improving their education, engaging in suitable side jobs, efforts to increase their income levels, and active strategies involving family members to secure financial support.
