Abstract

Rubber plants are plantation crops that are mostly utilized as a source of material for making rubber materials (latex), synthetic industrial materials, making asphalt and other benefits. One of the main problems of agricultural crop cultivation, especially rubber plants in Indonesia, is the attack of pathogenic fungi. One type of pathogenic fungus that attacks rubber plants is the pathogenic fungus Pestalotiopsis sp. which causes leaf fall disease. Symptoms of Pestalotiopsis leaf fall disease attack in the field are characterized by the formation of spot symptoms that continue to widen so that the tissue around the spot experiences necrosis. Leaf bones and leaf blades turn yellow which occurs sporadically and then leaves fall. Control of Pestalotiopsis leaf fall can be done by using endophytic bacterial microorganisms. Endophytic bacteria can produce bioactive compounds, namely antibiotic compounds, anticancer, antifungal, antiviral, insecticidal agents that can inhibit the growth of pathogenic fungi. This study aims to determine the potential of endophytic bacteria in suppressing the development of the pathogen Pestalotiopsis sp. the cause of rubber leaf fall disease, determine the specific mechanisms involved in the process of antagonism between endophytic bacteria and pathogenic fungi Pestalotiopsis sp. the cause of rubber leaf fall disease and determine the ability of endophytic bacteria to suppress the growth of pathogenic fungi Pestalotiopsis sp. the cause of rubber leaf fall disease. The research method used in this study is using the Complete Randomized Design (RAL) method consisting of 23 endophytic bacteria and 1 control without bacteria. The results of this study found that Pestalotiopsis sp hyphae were abnormal (swollen, broken, and curled) due to interactions with endophytic bacteria. Endophytic bacteria clones that can inhibit the growth of pathogenic fungi Pestalotiopsis sp. are clones B1, B2, B3, B5, B20, B21, B23, B37, B40, B52, B54.
