Abstract
The objective of this research was to determine the effect of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) and com (Zea rnays L.) rotation, organic and inorganic fertilizer doses on the accumulation of organic matter (carbon) in the soil and the com production. The research was conducted at Balai Agro Techno Park (ATP), Ministy of Research and Technology, Bakung Village, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatera from March 2014 to June 2014 using Split Split Plot design that consisted of three factors with 18 treatment combinations and three replications. The flrst factors was crop rotation (cowpea and com), the second factors was the doses of organic fertilizer (5 tons ha’1, 10 tons ha’1, and 15 tons ha'1), and the third factors was the doses of inorganic fertilizer (0 %, 50%, and 100%). The results showed that crop rotation and fertilizer application especially inorganic fertilizer effect on crop yields of com. Combination treatment of cowpea rotation with 10 tons ha’1 organic fertilizer and 50% inorganic fertilizer gave good results against the production of com. Soil organic matter decreased after treated with organic and inorganic fertilizers.
