Abstract

One of the health problems experienced by many elderly is insomnia. The incidence of insomnia in the elderly experienced by women and men is 78.1% at the age of 60-74 years. In meeting the needs of Activity of Daily Living (ADL) in the elderly can be fulfilled independently and dependence on others. This study aims to determine the relationship between the incidence of insomnia and the fulfillment of ADL needs in the elderly at the Harapan Kita Palembang Elderly Social Institution. The design used in this study was correlational with a cross sectional approach. The sample size was 50 respondents using the total sampling technique. Data collection using questionnaires which were then tested with Spearman Rank analysis with a degree of significance or = 5% (0.05). The results showed that α no insomnia 9 respondents, mild insomnia 19 respondents, severe insomnia 18 respondents, very severe insomnia 4 respondents. Respondents for meeting ADL needs were carried out independently as many as 9 respondents, light dependence 25 respondents, moderate dependence 6 respondents, heavy dependence 3 respondents, total dependence 7 respondents. The results of this study obtained p-value = 0.000 meaning that there is a relationship between the incidence of insomnia and the fulfillment of ADL needs with the results of the correlation analysis obtained r value = 0.665 proving that there is a strong and positive relationship between the relationship of insomnia events with the fulfillment of ADL needs. Based on research, it is expected that the incidence of insomnia in the Harapan Kita Palembang Elderly Social Institution will be reduced so that the fulfillment of ADL needs in the elderly is fulfilled properly.
