Abstract

This research aims to describe aspects of scientific literacy contained in class XI high school chemistry textbooks regarding reaction rates. The research instrument used in this research was adopted from the scientific literacy aspect researched by Chiappeta, Stehna, and Fillman (1991) which is divided into four aspects, namely the scientific knowledge aspect, the science aspect as a way of investigating, the science aspect as a way of thinking, and the interaction aspect. between science, technology and society. The results of the analysis obtained the average percentage of aspects of scientific literacy as follows: (1) Aspects of scientific knowledge, amounting to 41.95%, (2) Aspects of science as a way of investigating, amounting to 41.26%, (3) Aspects of science as a way of thinking, amounting to 13.99%, (4) Aspects of interaction between science, technology and society, amounting to 2.80%. This shows that aspects of scientific knowledge and science as a way of investigating dominate in the chemistry textbooks analyzed. Overall, the chemistry textbooks analyzed have described scientific literacy as a whole in the very good category. Keywords: Textbooks, Reaction Rates, Aspect of Scientific Literacy
