Abstract

Cooking oil is one of the staple ingredients to fulfill the dietary needs of the community. Various factors can influence consumers in purchasing packaged cooking oil. This research aimed to: 1) Analyze the characteristics of consumers who buy packaged cooking oil in Talang Kelapa District; 2) Estimate the amount of refined cooking oil consumption by households in Talang Kelapa District; 3) Analyze the factors influencing consumers in the purchase of packaged cooking oil. The research was conducted at Pasar Mega Asri and Indomaret KM 14 in Talang Kelapa District, Banyuasin Regency, in October 2023, with a total sample of 30 consumers of packaged cooking oil. The findings of this research are: 1) Consumers of packaged cooking oil, both in traditional markets and modern markets, are predominantly female. In traditional markets, they are predominantly in the age range of 36-45 years, while in modern markets, they are in the age range of 26-35 years. On average, consumers of packaged cooking oil in both traditional and modern markets have completed education up to high school and work as housewives; 2) The amount of packaged cooking oil consumption in Talang Kelapa District is 1.07 liters per capita per month. The most preferred brands in traditional markets are Fortune and Minyak Kita, while in modern markets, the preferred brands are Sania, Fortune, and Filma; 3) Factors significantly affecting the decision to purchase packaged cooking oil are price, income, and the number of family members. Meanwhile, taste preferences do not have a significant impact on the decision to purchase packaged cooking oil in Talang Kelapa District.
