Abstract

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is the main assistance that can be provided to someone with a cardiac arrest. CPR is one of the main foundations of Basic Life Support (BHD), which is the initial management of cardiac arrest. Competence in carrying out BHD procedures must be mastered by medical students as prospective doctors. This research aims to determine the level of knowledge of medical students about BHD, which until now has never been carried out on medical students at Sriwijaya University. This research is a descriptive observational study using a survey by collecting primary data obtained via Google Forms and using a questionnaire with 20 questions about related material. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis. The sample in the study was 146 pre-clinical students determined by stratified random sampling who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. All respondents had passed the emergency block and the majority of respondents (75.6%) were women. In the basic terminology of BHD, it was found that the most widely known terminology was the abbreviation BHD (92.6%) and the least known was EMS (82.1). In questions regarding CPR technique, the most widely known in order were the number of compressions (92.3%), compression ratio (90.4%hnb) and position when performing the procedure (83.3%). A total of 131 respondents knew the procedures for using AEDs (84.0%) and only 114 respondents understood the steps in correctly performing BHD on adults. (74.4%). Only 23 respondents (14.7%) felt very capable of providing assistance and 24 respondents were willing to provide BHD assistance (15.4%). From this research, it was found that the majority of respondents (50.6%) had a very good level of BHD knowledge, 36.5% a good level, 9.6% a sufficient level, 2.6% a poor level, and only 0.6% a poor level. very less. Key words: BHD, level of knowledge, medical students
