Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between perfectionism and fear of failure in thesis students. The hypotheses in this study that there were relationship between three dimension of perfectionism (high standard, order, and discrepancy) and fear of failure in thesis students. Respondents in this study were 312 students who taking thesis courses. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The measuring instruments in this study were The Revised Almost Perfect Scale (Slaney, 2001) which has been adapted into Indonesia versions by Titih Srantih (2014) and The Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory-Revised (Conroy, 2002) which has been translated into Indonesia version through back-translation technique. Data analysis was carried out using the pearson product moment and rank spearman correlation technique. The result of the correlation analysis between high standard and fear of failure showed r=0,613 with a significance value 0,004 (p<0,05). The correlation analysis between order and fear of failure showed r=0,113 with a significance value 0,046 (p<0,05). The result of the correlation analysis between discrepancy and fear of failure r=0,544 with a significance value 0,000 (p<0,05). This shows that there is a significant relationship between three dimension of perfectionism (high standard, order, and discrepancy) and fear of failure in thesis students. Therefore, the hypotheses of this study are accepted.
