Abstract

Bentonite-GO composite was used as adsorbent for adsorption method on methylene blue dye. In this study, Bentonite-GO composite was synthesized and characterized by XRD, SEM, and BET. The adsorption process was carried out by varying pHpzc, concentration and contact time. . In addition, the adsorption isotherm model was determined. On XRD characterization of bentonite shows an angular peak 2 = 22.10° while graphene oxide at 2 = 10.57° and Bentonite-oxide graphene with a ratio of 1:3 showed point at an angle of 2 = 25.61° with a d-spacing of 3.48 Å. For SEM characterization of bentonite at 5000x magnification, the bentonite surface tends to still be like chunks and has many gaps, while the Bentonite-GO composite shows many wrinkles and a much rougher surface. The results of BET characterization of Bentonite-GO obtained surface area of 91.5059 m2/g and pores of 0.1997 cm3/g. This has the potential to help increase adsorption on dyes. The pHpzc results obtained at pH 5,8. The results of the Composite absorption concentration variation test on methylene blue dye at the optimum time for methylene blue absorption is at 60 minutes where it absorbs up to 9.5 mg/g. Adsorption process follows the Langmuir isotherm model with a value of R2 = 0.745 and Freundlich isotherm with R2 = 0.631.
