Abstract

Separation of metabolite compounds from the n-hexane fraction of the wood of the M. alba L. plant has not been widely carried out. TLC analysis showed that M. alba L. has many metabolite compounds. This research was aimed to determine metabolite compounds from the n-hexane fraction of the wood of the M. alba L. plant using the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method. The extraction process for M. alba L. plant wood powder was carried out by maceration using methanol solvent. The methanol extract was then fractionated using n-hexane solvent. Separation of compounds were carried out using vacuum liquid chromatography and gravity chromatography methods. The obtained compunds were in the form of a yellowish white solid of 23.8 mg. Based on the GC-MS data, the isolated compound was a mixture of several compounds and 6 of them were identified at RT of 17.23; 16.55; 7.18; 16.00; 8.11; and 15.68 minutes. These compounds were 24-methylencycloartanol, lupeol, β-amirin, and ursan-9(11), 12-dien-3-ol which are secondary metabolite compounds, and palmitic acid and stearic acid which are primary metabolite compound based on comparation to their mass spectra with NIST data base library.
