Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectivity of some mixed herbicide formulations of atrazine, mesotrione, and nicosulfuron to control weeds and its effect on the growth and yield of corn (Zea mays L.). This research was conducted at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University Indralaya from November 2022 to May 2023. The metode used in this study was a randomized block design consisting of 7 treatments in 3 replications, so there were 21 experimental units. The treatments consisted of (P0) without weed control, (P1) mixed herbicide atrazine + mesotrione 1 ℓ/ha, (P2) mixed herbicide atrazine + mesotrione 2 ℓ/ha, (P3) mixed herbicide atrazine + mesotrione 3 ℓ/ha, (P4) mixed herbicide atrazine + mesotrione + nicosulfuron 1 ℓ/ha, (P5) mixed herbicide atrazine + mesotrione + nicosulfuron 2 ℓ/ha, (P6) mixed herbicide atrazine + mesotrione + nicosulfuron 3 ℓ/ha. Data obtained from observations and measurements were analyzed using the analysis of variance. Furthermore, if the observation results were significantly different, a High Significant Difference (HSD) test was carried out at the 5% test level. The results showed that the dominant weeds before tillage was Asystasia intrusa with SDR (Summed Dominance Ratio) 22.41%, after tillage the dominant weeds was Cyperus rotundus with SDR 37.48%, and after herbicide application the dominant weeds was Borreria alata with SDR 21.80%. The herbicide treatment of Atrazine 260 g/ℓ + Mesotrion 55 g/ℓ + Nicosulfuron 40 g/ℓ with a dose of 2 ℓ was more effective in controlling weeds than the other treatments. However, the use of those several herbicide formulations did not have a significant effect on the corn seed production.
