Abstract
The research was carried out at entomological Iaboratory, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agricultural Sriwijaya University, form March 2013 to September 2013. This experiments were conducted to investigate effect extract of red betel on P. xy!ostella larvae mortality. The experiment method was arranged in a completely randomized design with 6 treatments and 4 replications. Treatment consisted of 6 levels of concentration: A: as control, B: piper crocatum extract 7%, C: red betel extract 8%, D: red betel extract 9%. E: red betel extract 10%, F: red betel extract 11%. The results showed that the extract of red betel leaf can be used as antifeedent and had a low toxicity against P. xylostella larvae, at a dose of 7%- 11% could only cause a mortality of 27.5% -32.5% of test insects. Red betel leaf extract could cause abnormal growth such as blackish brown of cocoon, smaller size of pupae and pupal easily detached ffom cocoon. Imago formed abnormal wings, legs and antennae. ■
