Abstract

This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Entomology Department of Plant Pests and Diseases Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University Indralaya from April to September 2013. The objectives of this research were: 1) to measure the toxicity of citronella extract on P. xylostella larva, 2) were to observe the inhibition effect the extract on the development of P. xylostella larva to pupae, and, 3) the effect of citronella grass extract on larval appetition. This experiment was arranged in Completely Randomized Design with 7 treatments and 4 replications, the treatment were TO (distilled water), T1 (citronella extract 14,24%), T2 (citronella extract 16,02%), T3 (citronella extract 17,8%), T4 (citronella extract 19,58%), T5 (citronella extract 21,36%), and T6 (synthetic insecticides imdakloprid 2 mg /1). The results showed that citronella effective as an insecticidal plant with the highest larval mortality was found in treatment T5 (21,36%) with percentage of 60%. The best treatment was T3 (17,8%) with a percentage of 57,50% pupa formation, larva become imago was 40%, and the percentage of 93.75% ate inhibition. The conclusions, citronella extract was effective to control the diamondback moth P. xylostella on chinese cabbage.
