Abstract

The research objective was to determine the effects of rotation speeds and water contents on working capacity and peeling yield using com peeler machine. The rotation speeds in this study were 1,000 rpm (RI), 1,200 rpm (R2), 1,400 rpm (R3) and the water content levels were 22% to 24%(K1), 19% to 21%(K2), 16% to 18(K3). The parameters were working capacity, theoretical capacity, whole seed percentage, cracked seed percentage, broken seed percentage, foreign material percentage, impeeled seed percentage, and throughput. The design used in this research was Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) consisting of tliree rotation speeds and three levels of water content with three replications for each treatment. The material used in this study was com of C7 variety, while the equipments used were: 1). com peeler , 2). tachometer, 3). grain moisture meter, 4). general balance, 5). stop watch, 6). plastic bags. The result showed that the highest working capacity produced at the treatment of 1,400 rpm and 18% to 16% (R3K3) 29.02 kg/minute. The highest percentage of whole seed produced at the treatment of 1,000 rpm and 16% to 18% (R1K3) was 92.6%. The lowest percentage of cracked seed produced at the treatment of 1,000 rpm and 16% to 18% (R1K3) 3.03%. The lowest percentage of broken seed produced at the treatment of was was 1,000 rpm and 16% to 18% (R1K3) was 4.8%. The result also showed that the lowest foreign material produced at the treatment of 1,400 rpm and 22% to 24% (R3K1) was 1.1% and unpeeled com produced at the treatment of 1,400 rpm and 16% to 18% (R3K3) was 2%.
