Abstract

Worm infections can occur to anyone, especially in people who are always in direct contact with soil and dirt, such as scavengers. Many factors trigger the occurrence of worms that can worsen the health of scavengers who work and even reside around the landfill. Therefore this research aims to find out how the trigger factor of the occurrence of worms can occur on the scavenger and see the conditions directly in the Sukawinatan TPA Palembang City. This study aims to analyze the influence of age, education, knowledge, use of PPE, personal hygiene, worming medicine, latrine ownership and clean water supply at waste picker at TPA Sukawinatan Palembang City Year 2017. This research use cross sectional design. The sample of the research is scavenger totaling 68 people. Data collection tool in the form of questionnaires and conducted laboratory tests. Scavengers who experienced positive worms (54.4%) and scavengers who are worm-worms (45.6%). The results showed that the incidence of infection of worm infection can be influenced by education factor (ρ 0,013), knowledge (ρ 0,002), use of personal protective equipment (ρ 0,004), personal hygiene (ρ 0,019), worm giving (ρ 0,021) 0.001), clean water (ρ 0.001). Age variable has nothing to do with worm disease (ρ 0.740) which means bigger than value α 0,05. It can be concluded that as many as 68 respondents obtained results (54.4%) scavengers positive worms, (45.6%) scavengers are negative worms. the factors that cause worms are education, knowledge, use of personal protective equipment, personal hygiene, worm medicine, unavailability of latrines, and no clean water facilities that support. Only one factor that does not affect worms is Age. Because the age of all ages can experience the occurrence of worm disease. So a good suggestion for this case is made prevention efforts (preventif) for scavengers. Not only from the scavengers themselves but for the cleanliness agency as the owner of authority and responsibility to process the landfill should also make preventive efforts to awake from diseases of worms.
