Abstract

One of main cause of law survival of fish larvae is low DO availability media. The purpose of this research is to know influence of aeration period to survival rate and growth of patin siam (Pangasius hypophthalmus) larvae and DO availability media. This research has been conducted from July to August 2007 at Fishery’s Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. As much as 2625 of 8 day old ± 1,1 cm length and ± 0,2 mg weight of larvae of patin siam samples were used in this current research. Samples of larvae were taken ffom Jambi Freshwater Aquaculture Development Centre. The parameters observed in this experiment percentage of survival rate, growth and water quality of DO of media, namely temperature, pH and amonia. The best survival rate percentage, larvae growth and DO availability of media were observed at A0 treatment, namely continuous aeration for 24 hour/day, followed by A3 treatment (aerated for 11,5 hour and taken off for 0,5 hour).
