Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) can cause cognitive disorders and even Alzheimer's disorders. Catechins in gambier have pharmacological effects as antioxidants and can be used as therapy to improve cognitive function and prevent Alzheimer's disease. The research aims to determine the characteristics of gambier extract and SNE as active anti-diabetic ingredients to prevent Alzheimer's disease and to determine the effect of SNE gambier extract on anti-diabetes in preventing Alzheimer's disease. The research subjects used six groups of white Wistar rats. Normal group, negative control group with STZ-NA induction 45mg/kgBW. Group positive for glibenclamide 5mg/kgBW, group 1 SNE basic dose 40mg/kgBW, group 2 SNE gambier extract 60mg/kgBW, group 3 gambier extract 60mg/kgBW. Data were analyzed using the One Way Anova test and continued with the Post-Hoc Tuke or Kruskal-Wallis test. The ANOVA results showed a p value <0.05 so there were significant differences between treatments in the parameters of fasting glucose, SOD, CAT and MDA. The research results show that administration of SNE gambier extract is an effective drug delivery system as an antioxidant and as a prevention of Alzheimer's disease.
