Abstract

This research aims to determine the antibacterial effectiveness of essential oils obtained from avocado skin. Isolate essential oil from avocado skin using steam distillation and test its antibacterial activity using the Kirby Bauer diffusion method using a disc. The results of isolating avocado peel essential oil resulted in a yield of 0.03% and antibacterial activity against E. colli was effective at a concentration of 50%. Based on qualitative test results, avocado peel essential oil shows that it contains positive steroid compounds. The results of measuring the specific gravity of avocado peel essential oil were found to be an average of 1.10 g/mL. The results of observations from organoleptic examination of avocado skin essential oil have a typical avocado aroma, with a greenish liquid color. The avocado peel extract hand sanitizer formulation meets the pH requirements according to SNI with a safe range of 4.5-8.0 and meets the homogeneity test requirements.
