Abstract

Rice plants are not aquatic plants, but rice plants can live in flooded conditions and require quite a lot of water. However, the development and growth of the roots of rice plants will be hampered by waterlogging, about 70 percent of the roots of rice plants will experience degradation and death. Therefore, the best development and growth of rice plants is under muddy water conditions during the vegetative phase. Muddy water conditions can also conserve soil and water such as to prevent soil loss due to erosion and water wastage on land. The research objective was to determine the opportunity to apply the use of SRI (System Of Rice Intensification) in muddy water conditions in soil and water conservation efforts. This research was conducted from July 2023 to September 2023 in Lebak Swamp Rice Field, Pelabuhan Dalam Village, Pemulutan District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. The method used in this research is descriptive, namely by making direct observations in the field, literature studies, surveys with questionnaires. The research parameters in this study are Rainfall, Evapotranspiration, Water level fluctuations, Percolation, Soil permeability. The results of the SWOT analysis in determining the opportunity to apply the use of SRI (System of Rice Intensification) in random water conditions in soil and water conservation efforts, an alternative strategy is obtained, namely the Strength - Opportunity (SO) strategy as follows: 1) Water level regulation can be optimized with the skills of farmers and supportive land, so that water can be muddy conditions and minimize wasteful use of water and reduce the risk of soil loss on the land, 2) The implementation of muddy water conditions on lebak swamp rice fields needs infrastructure support (dikes and water pumps) and optimization of water sources from rainfall, river overflows, and boreholes
