Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease. This condition is diagnosed based on abnormal blood sugar levels due to insulin deficiency or insulin resistance. Obesity is one of the important risk factors in the development of T2DM pathophysiology. The purpose of this study was to see the correlation between the results of anthropometric measurements consisting of BMI, abdominal circumference, weight to height ratio, and a body shape index with blood sugar profile. Methods: This study is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design and uses primary data samples as many as 60 respondents taken with stratified random sampling techniques on Sriwijaya University Faculty of Medicine students aged at least 17 years, and do not have a history of disease that affects blood sugar levels and abdominal circumference. blood sugar checks using a glucometer and anthropometric measurements consisting of measuring abdominal circumference, weight to height ratio, and a body shape index to Sriwijaya University Faculty of Medicine students. Results: Respondents who had central obesity based on abdominal circumference were 32.8%, based on WHtR were 34.1%. Respondents who were overweight and obese based on BMI were 24.7%. Respondents who experienced an increased risk of cardiometabolic disease according to ABSI were 29.5%. In the correlation analysis, there was a relationship between IMT and fasting blood sugar profile with a correlation value (r = 0.269) with a significance value (p = 0.036) and WHtR with a blood sugar profile with a correlation value (r = 0.287) and statistically significant with a significance value (p = 0.025). Conclusion: Based on the results of this study there is a correlation between BMI, and WHtR with the blood sugar profile of respondents. This study also shows the incidence of prediabetes is quite high and the results of anthropometric measurements show a fairly high incidence of central obesity in Sriwijaya University Faculty of Medicine students.
