Abstract

Jobs with shift work have a higher risk of experiencing health problems compared to nonshift work, one of the health problems that can occur is hypertension. Risk factors that can increase the occurrence of hypertension include food intake and sleep quality. This study aims to examine the relationship between food intake and sleep quality on blood pressure during nursing shifts. This research is a quantitative research with a cross sectional method. The research was conducted on 40 nurses using purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out using 3x24 hour food recall interviews and PSQI questionnaires. The data analysis carried out was univariate and bivariate analysis with the alternative chi square test, namely Fisher's Exact. Univariate test results showed that 36 respondents (90%) had inappropriate energy intake, 23 respondents (57.5%) had inappropriate fat intake, 36 respondents (90%) had appropriate sodium intake and respondents had good sleep quality and 50% each was bad and 37 respondents (92.5%) were not hypertensive. The bivariate test results showed that there was no relationship between energy intake (p=0.277), fat intake (p=0.248) and sleep quality (p=1.000) on blood pressure on the nurse shift, while there was a relationship between sodium intake and blood pressure on the nurse shift (p =0.022). The conclusion is that there is no relationship between energy intake, fat intake and blood pressure on blood pressure on nurse shifts at Muhammadiyah Palembang Hospital and there is a relationship between sodium intake and blood pressure on nurse shifts at Muhammadiyah Palembang Hospital. It is recommended for nurses to pay attention to the eating schedule, namely 3 main meals and 2 snacks, consume food according to needs and have a variety at each meal, namely staple foods, side dishes, vegetables and fruit, limit foods high in sodium such as foods in packaging.
