Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the growth characteristic and productions of groundnut derived from seed come from pods with different number of seeds per pod. This research was conducted at farm area in Indralaya, Ogan Ilir, from December 2006 to March 2007. The research was arranged as a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three treatments and four replications. Each plot was consisted of five plants, so there was 600 plants on planted area. The treatments was as follows : A = plants derived from seeds * come from pods with single seed (bitu), B = plants derived from seeds come from pods A with double seeds (bida), C =plants derived from seed come from pod with triple seeds (biga). The parameter observed were average number of branch from each sample plant (branch), average of plant height (cm), average of plant fresh weight (g), average of plant dry weight (g), average of fresh pod (g), average of dry pod (g), average number of pod (pod), percentage of bitu, bida and biga (%), and the weight of 100 seeds. The result of this research indicated that the plants derived from bitu, bida, and biga showed no significant effect on plant height and number of branch. Otherwise they showed significant effect on the fresh as well as on dry weight of plant The plants derived from bitu seemed to have higher fresh and dry weight than others. Furthermore, the treatments showed no significant effect on the productions characteristic, except to the weight of 100 seeds and the peanut plants originated from biga tended to have higher weight of 100 seeds. This research also showed that differential number of seed per pod of peanut apparently was the characteristic of the variety and not the characteristic of individual seeds as indicated by domination of the pods of double seeds per pod with reach more than 85 %.
