Abstract

The objective of this research was to improve digestibility quality and palatability of sugarcane waste fermented with combination of EM-4 and urea. Two stage experiment were conducted. Stage one was 21 days sugarcane waste fermentation and second stage was digestibility evaluation using in vitro method. These research was held for 2 months from Februari — April 2009 in Ani mal Nutrition and Feed Science Laboratory, Animal Feed and Nutrition Department of Agricultur Faculty Sriwijaya University. Completely randomized design with factorial mode were used wich has 2 factor (urea and EM-4) and 3 replication. Treatments were combination of urea (Al = 0.4%, A2 = 0.6%, A3 = 0.8%) and EM-4 (BI = 6% and B2 = 8%). Observed parameters were Dry matter digestibility, Organic matter digestibility, N-amonia, gas production and palatability. Result shows that EM-4 and urea give significant result (P<0.05) on dry matter and organic matter digestibility, with highest score on A2B3 treatment (53.143%). EM-4 also affected in N-amonia concentration with highest A2B1 treatment (21.33%). However, EM-4 and urea give insignificant result on gas production. Sugarcane waste fermented with EM-4 and urea were palatable enough to ruminants. score on !
