Abstract

A. craccivora is an important pest in yardlong bean. To control A. craccivora, farmers frequently use synthetic insecticides. The use of synthetic insecticides is considered as unwise choice and might cause bad impact on humans health and also pollute the enviroment. The use of botanical insecticides is a safer way to protect humans health and the environment. The purpose of the research aims to know the effectiveness of extract of A. muricata leaves as vegetable insecticides in controlling populations of A. craccivora at yardlong bean. This research conducted in land of yardlong beans to farmer in district Talang Kelapa, Sukajadi village, Banyuasin subdistrict. The experiment was arranged in a factorial randomized block design of factors consisting of second factors combined to obtain 12 treatments and each treatment was repeated 3 times. The main factor is the concentration of A. muricata leaf extract. The second factor is the storage time of A. muricata leaf extract. The result of the experiment showed that the application of A. muricata leaf extract can suppress the population of A. craccivora in yardlong bean in the vegetative and generative phases with ranges between 1.44 – 62.73% and 5.10 – 71.63%. The concentration of leaf extract A. muricata as the best insecticide to suppress the population of A. craccivora is a concentration of 0.5%. A. muricata leaf extract stored up to 4 days is still effectivedeadly A. craccivora.
