Abstract

South Sumatra has a high percentage of early marriages (55.32%), while the highest girls marriage under 19 years old was in Musi Rawas, reaching 31% or around 33,378 adolescents. The large number of those adolescents should have the potential to become the nation's next generation, which has to prepared both physically, psychologically and spiritually. Early marriage is indirectly the cause of the high incidence of stunting in Musi Rawas, and directly the cause of adolescents pregnancy as a factor of premature babies, low birth weight, cervical cancer and the mortality of mothers and babies. The aim of this research is to explore information related to the patterns of adolescents intentions to marry early. The research design used is descriptive with a qualitative approach. There were 18 informants in this study, namely 6 main informants, 5 triangulation informants, 2 key informants and 5 FGD informants. Data collection used in-depth interviews and FGD. The results of the research showed that the patterns of adolescents intentions are formed from Attitude Toward behavior, which the perspective of early marriage behavior, education and psychology of adolescents, and Subjective Norm, there are social norms, parental support and economic factors, and perceived behavior control, there is adolescents self-confidence towards marriage, media exposure and knowledge. These three factors shape adolescents intentions, but almost all teenagers in this study decided to marry early because of the urgent condition of being pregnant out of wedlock. There is a need to strengthen health promotion by empowering teenagers and parents to create new thoughts and habits to reject early marriage behavior so that it is hoped that it can reduce the incidence of early marriage in Musi Rawas Regency.
