Abstract

This study aims to determine the performance of the 2 in 1 type YCC985S chopper and flouring machine against rice straw chopping using pulley variations. This research was conducted from November to December 2023 at the Sub Laboratory of Agricultural Energy and Sub Laboratory of Machinery, Department of Agricultural Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The research method used, namely descriptive method with the treatment of differences in pulley size variations diameter 17.5 cm (A) and diameter 21 cm pulley (B) on the tools used. The treatment used 1 kg, 3 kg, and 5 kg of rice straw. Each treatment was repeated three times in the variation of pulley size A and pulley B. The results of the study obtained data on the results of chopping in the variation of pulley size A and pulley B, which amounted to 2.64 kg and 2.80 kg, respectively. This is influenced by the weight of materials and pulleys used. Many materials and pulleys used also affect the electric current, electric voltage, electric power, pressing time, and energy requirements. Based on the research results, it shows that the electric power on the pulley A has an average of 1,219 W and the pulley B has an average of 1,225 W, while the average voltage, power, and energy requirements on the pulley A are smaller than the pulley B. This causes the chopping time using the pulley B to be longer than using pulley A. The highest average percentage of material remaining in the tool is found on the pulley A at a weight of 1 kg by 26.67% and the lowest average material remaining in the tool is found on the pulley B at a weight of 3 kg by 3.95%. The highest working capacity was found on the pulley A at a weight of 5 kg at 33.01 kg/hour and the lowest working capacity was found on the pulley B at a weight of 3 kg at 24.93 kg/hour.
