Abstract

The tapioca industry is one type of agro-industry that is widely developed in Indonesia. The problem that often arises from the tapioca industry is waste pollution, especially discharged liquid waste. Liquid waste from the tapioca flour industry has the potential to cause pollution because it contains high COD and BOD. The impact of tapioca liquid waste can cause river pollution. This study aims to analyze the processing of tapioca liquid waste at PT Banyuasin Agro Mandiri Sukamaju Village, Musi Banyuasin Regency using a qualitative descriptive method. The method of collecting information by conducting in-depth interviews, document review, observation and checking the quality of liquid waste. The results showed that the source of liquid waste came from the cassava washing process. The wastewater discharge generated averages 10 m3 /day and has a liquid waste disposal permit. Tapioca flour liquid waste before being discharged into the environment is treated through several stages, namely through sedimentation ponds, anaerobic, facultative. The examination results show that tapioca liquid waste at the outlet of the ipal contains BOD of 42.17 mg/L, COD of 135 mg/L TSS of 40 mg/L, pH 7.60, and cyanide <0.004 mg/L. So it can be concluded that the quality of tapioca liquid waste has met the quality standards based on PermenLH No. 5 of 2014. Suggestions for the company are PT Banyuasin Agro Mandiri adding waste officers and placing qualified people to manage.
