Abstract
The aim of this research is to find out characteristic of agronomy on several populations of com with high protein content and the populations with tolerant to soil acidity treated with fertilizers and the effort to cross the plants. This research has been done on March 2006 to July 2006 at farmer field in Tanjung Seteko Village, Inderalaya Sub-district, Ogan Ilir Regency. The protein analysis was done from July 28 to August 30 2006 in Food Tecnology Laboratory of on Agricultural Faculty of North Sumatera University (USU), Medan. This research was carried out according to The Randomized Complete Block Design which was consisted of 12 factorially treatment combinations replications. The first factor was the population of coms of Toray-1 (Gl), Toray-2 (G2), GS-5 (G3) and GS-10 (G4). The second factor was fertilizing treatments of 69 kg N + 36 kg P205 +15 kg K20 per ha (Pl), 115 kg N + 54 kg P205 + 30 kg K20 per ha (P2), 161 kg N + 72 kg P205 +45 kg K20 per ha (P3). The variables observed were the height of com, age of being in blooming, the length of com ear, the diameter of cob, the weight of each cob, the amount of seed per cob, the weight of dried seed in each cob, the weight of 100 seeds, the amount of seeds resulted from Crossing , and the protein content of the seeds. and 3 The result indicated that the populations of com, generally showed good characteristic of agronomy with potential of yield of 4,25 to 6,47 tons of com per ha. The protein content of seed resulted from Crossing was about 9,84 % to 11,30 %, while the protein content of respected parent was 9,11 % and 12,62 %. This value indicated that the genetic factor plays important role and the gene was successfully transfered form the parent to the respected progeny. This result was confimed by the estimation of heritability value (h2) = 0,75 and the standardized error SE (h2) = 0,53.
