Abstract

The objective of this research was to get the best combination treatment of storage periode and frequency of aeration to viability of palm oil seed. Research was conducted from September Until December 2006 at Seed Processing Unit of PT. Bina Sawit Makmur (BSM), Sampoema Agro, Palembang, South Sumatera. This research used Randomised Completed Factorial Design with two factors and three replications. Each treatment unit used of Polyethilen plastic bag which contained 800 seed. Storage periode factor consisted of six level treatments, they were: P1 (10 months in the storage), P2 (8 months in the storage), P3 (6 months in the storage), P4 (4 months in the storage), P5 (2 months in the storage), P6 ( 0 months in the storage). Frequency of aeration at heating room, consisted of five level treatmenst, they were: F1 (Every 4 days), F2 (Every 7 days), F3 (Every 10 days), F4 (Every 14 days), F5 (Without aeration). The result of this research showed that treatments of seed storage periode of four months with frequency of aeration every seven days gave highest germination percentage that was 80,19 % and the maximum of growth potency that was to 87,06%.
