Abstract
Objective of the research was to evaluate the growth and yield of 23 soybean lines/cultivars in Ultisol soil with non optimum fertilizing conditions. This research was conducted in March 2006 to June 2006 in Balai Agro Teknologi Terpadu I (ATP I) Bakung village, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir Regency, Sumsel. The experimental design used was a Randomized Block Design with three replications. The treatments were 23 soybean lines/cultivars that given non optimum fertilizing (one third of recommended dosage : 33,3 kg Urea, 50 kg SP 36, and 33,3 kg KCL per ha). The results showed that KH38 and KH8 lines had the highest yield among 18 lines evaluated (140,56 and 136,67 g per m2, respectively), but still lower than the yield of Slamet (160 g per m2) as one of their parent. The growth characteristics and yield components that contributed to the high yield of KH38 and KH8 were number of productive branches and nodes, number of pods, number of seeds, seed weight per plant, as well as number of nodules per plant and chlorophyll content.
