Abstract

This research was aimed to determine how the effect of various sizes of nursery trays and watering intervals on the nursery of cayenne pepper plants of the bara varieties. This study was conducted in Sukarami District (2°56'30.9"S 104°44'14.9"E), Palembang, South Sumatra, from August to September 2023. The research used splitplot design with 2 treatment factors. The main plot was Nursery Tray Sizes (V) which consist of 3 levels, namely: V1 = 32 hole tray (5,5 x 5,5 cm), V2 =50holetray(5x5cm),andV3 =72holetray(4x4cm).Thesubplotwas the Watering Intervals (P) consisting of 3 levels, namely: P1 = 2 times a day, with different watering frequencies (V1: 32,5 ml, V2: 20 ml, and V3: 15 ml), P2 = 3 times a day, with different watering frequencies (V1: 21,7 ml, V2: 13,3 ml, and V3: 10 ml), and P3 = 4 times a day, with different watering frequencies (V1: 16,25 ml, V2: 10 ml, and V3: 7,5 ml). Each treatment was repeated 3 times so there were 27 experimental units. Each experimental unit cosisted of six nursery trays cups, each cup had one seedling, so there were 162 plant seedlings observed. Data obtained were analyzed using the variance test and LSD 5% test. The result found that the 5,5 x 5,5 cm size of nursery tray (V1) treatment showed the highest value in plant growth and yield, namely in the parameters of plant height, leaf number, header fresh weight, root fresh weight, header dry weight, and root dry weight. Meanwhile, the watering intervals of 2 times a day (P1) showed the highest values for plant growth and yield, namely the parameters of leaf number, header fresh weight, root fresh weight, header dry weight, and root dry weight.
