Abstract
Objective research was to evaluate the characteristic growth and yield of soybean genotypes and varieties in optimum condition. The experiment was carried out ffom March to June 2006 at Balai Agro Teknologi Terpadu (ATP 1) at Bakung Village, Inderalaya, Ogan Ilir (01) South Sumatera. Randomized Block Design (RBD) was used in this research that consist of eighteen soyben genotypes and five best varieties as a treatment. The result showed that was differences in growth, development and yield among the genotypes. Statistical analyzes showed there was soybean genotypes that yield the high. KH4 (359/2/13/8/13) genotype could be recommended to be new variety in ultisol soil at optimum fertilizing condition, and it was not significant different with KH2 (359/2/13/8/9) genotype and KH44 (158/29/36/2/2) genotype, which had a higher yield potential than Slamet and Nokhonsawon as their parent and another three-best-varietes ( five checking cultivars). The growth characteristic and yield components that contributed to the high yield of KH4 (359/2/13/8/13), KH2 (359/2/13/8/9), and K.H44 (158/29/36/2/2) genotype were number of productive branches and nodes, number of pods, number of seed, seed weight per plant, as well as 100 seed weight.
