Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem in Sembilang National Park is the largest ecosystem compared to other ecosystems. Mangroves absorb carbon dioxide gas through photosynthesis and then this carbon element will be stored in biomass in the form of carbon stocks. The aim of this research is to determine the condition of mangrove vegetation at tree level, estimate the amount of upper stand carbon stock and estimate the capacity for carbon absorption through the photosynthesis process in the mangrove area of Southern Sembilang National Park. This research was carried out on June 2023. Mangrove vegetation data was obtained using the quadratic transect method with a plot area of 10m x 10m. Estimation of carbon stocks at tree level using allometric methods. Estimation of carbon absorption capacity through the photosynthesis process using the Leaf Area Index (LAI) method. Mangrove vegetation is found at five stations in the area of Southern Sembilang National Park is A. alba, B. parviflora, R. apiculata. The type of mangrove with the highest species density is B. parviflora. Upper stand carbon stock in the area of Southern Sembilang National Park is capable of storing carbon as much as 327.44 ton-C/ha on average, with a total of 1,637.2 ton-C/ha. The B. parviflora community is the mangrove community that stores the most carbon in the form of top stand biomass with a value of 1,150.7 ton-C/ha. The average amount of carbon uptake by mangrove vegetation through the process of photosynthesis in the area of Southern Sembilang National Park is 22.95 kg/ha/day. The B. parviflora community is the highest community capable of absorbing carbon through the photosynthesis process, with a total absorption of 66.38 kg-C/ha/day.
