Abstract

One of the breeding programs in the Agronomy Study Program of the Department of Agricultural Cultivation of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, is to observe corn plants both from growth, production and segregation as well as selecting corn plants with free accession to Unsri-J1xU which are corn from the cross of Unsri's accession with purple corn, therefore further research was carried out on the F3 generation to observe the free-sty corn plants of Unsri-JxU. This research aims to evaluate growth and production as well as make selection and know the segregation of several accessions of Unsri-JxU-free purple corn, and obtain seed yields for the next generation. The research was carried out in collaboration with farmers on agricultural land, Timbangan Village, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency from August to November 2023. This research uses a Random Group Design consisting of four accessions, namely Unsri-J1UU, Unsri-J1U, Unsri-J1UK and Unsri-J1KU. This research shows that the growth phase of accession Unsri-J1UK has the best growth which is sequentially followed by Unsri-J3U, Unsri-J1KU, and Unsri-J1UU. The level of production shows that the highest production in general is the accession of Unsri-J1UK and sequentially followed by Unsri-J1KU, Unsri-J3U, and Unsri-J1UU. The selection of plants from the four accessions shows low yields which means that the accession of Unsri-J1UU, Unsri-J3U, Unsri-J1UK, Unsri-J1KU has a low number of intersection-type plants and poor growth. At the segregation level, the corn crop from the Unsri-JxU accession is still experiencing high segregation, in general the accession with the best segregation, namely Unsri-J1KU sequentially followed by Unsri-J1UK, Unsri-J1UU, Unsri-J3U. In the production of seeds, there are research seeds for purple corn in limited quantities due to the segregation that occurs and there are available seeds of prospective babycorn varieties from the accession of Unsri-J1UU and the accession of Unsri-J1KU
