Abstract
The objective of research was to evaluate the effect of available groundwater content on the growth and production of physic nut. The research was conducted ffom February to June 2007 at research station of Agro Techno Park (ATP) Bakung Village, North Indralaya Subdistrict, Ogan Ilir (OI) regency, South Sumatra Province. This research used completely randomized design with three treatments. They were high level of groundwater content (30% — 38%), medium level of groundwater content (22% - 30%), and low level groundwater content (14% - 22%). The results of the research showed that the treatments of groundwater content influenced canopy growth and water content of seed. On high level of groundwater, the value of canopy growth is 58.79 cm and water content of seed is 21.08%. On low level of groundwater, the value of canopy growth is 24.10 cm and the value of water content of seed is 12.44%. The treatments of groundwater content that was done for four months after harvest didn’t influence some parameters such as increasing of plant height, increasing of stem diameter, the number of fruit in each bunch, the number of seed in each fruit, seed weight (14% water content), and fresh fruit weight.
