Abstract
Tea plants can accumulate heavy metal chromium in their leaves. The presence of heavy metal chromium in tea can be harmful to health because this metal can have toxic effects on the body and living things. Heavy metal chromium (Cr) is one type of heavy metal that has toxic properties at certain levels and chromium polluting metals are generally produced by human activities.The objectives of this study are (1) To determine the content of heavy metal chromium (Cr) in the leaves and roots of tea plantations and some chemical properties of soil in PTPN VII Pagar Alam Unit, South Pagar Alam District, Pagar Alam City. (2) To determine the effect of plant age on the presence of heavy metal chromium (Cr) in the leaves and roots of tea plants (Camellia sinensis L.) in PTPN VII Pagar Alam Unit. This research was conducted at PTPN VII Pagar Alam Unit in July-November. The research method used a detailed survey method at a scale of 1:25.000, while the tea plantation under study was 86,286 ha and was divided into 4 Afdeling and the determination of sampling points using the Stratified Sampling method which was divided based on the age range of plants, namely the age range of 4-14 years, 15-25 years, 26-36 years, and 37-47 years and each plant age was taken 10 samples (5 samples of roots and leaves) with 3 replicates, so that 120 samples were obtained. After that, each sample of the plant age range was composited into 24 samples (12 roots and leaves). The results of the study (1) The content of heavy metal chromium (Cr) in tea leaves belonging to PTPN VII Pagar Alam Unit obtained an average concentration value of about 0,40 ± 0,014 mg/kg and the roots obtained an average concentration value of about 0,059 ± 0,035 mg/kg and this shows that heavy metal chromium contained in tea leaves and roots is still far from the threshold so that it is safe for consumption. (2) The results of ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) with RAK (Randomized Group Design) found that the content of heavy metal chromium (Cr) in leaves and root uptake did not significantly affect the age of the plant.
