Abstract
Coal produced from the mining front in general are not directly sent to consumers but stacked temporarily in a buildup place called stockpile.The main problem that company has to in the buildup of temporary coal stockpile is spontaneous combustion. Therefore, the compaction method is used to prevent a spontaneous combustion. From the results of studies in the field, it is found that the temporary stockpile pit 1B TE63LS westem Banko coal miner PT Bukit Asam, compaction using bulldozer komatsu D85ESS with layer-by-layer system where the thickness of each layer is about 50 cm. Compaction is done by leveling the surface of the pile and then carried back and forth motion twice. Compaction has been effectively carried out, where the average tonnage of coal compressed approximately 645 tons/hour with the ability to condense out of the bulldozer D85ESS 859,05 m3/hour. After the application of the compaction method, the temperature rise to be relatively stable, where the average temperature is 37,1 °C before compaction and after compacton to 34 °C. so the compaction method is already done effectively because it suppress the increasing temperature which the results can inhibit the occurrence of the spontaneous combustion in temporary stockpile.
