Abstract
The low income levels of farmers make polyculture cultivation systems an effort to improve farmers' income. Polyculture is an agricultural system where various types of crops are planted or cultivated together in one area or farm. One of the crops that can be cultivated in polyculture is rubber (Hevea brasiliensis) and chili peppers (Capsicum frustescens). The intercropping pattern of chili peppers as an intercrop with rubber has promising prospects and is profitable for rubber farming. This research aims to determine the diversity of arthropod species and the production of polycultured chili peppers with rubber plants at the Rubber Research Garden, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sriwijaya. The research was conducted from August to November 2023. The study used a completely randomized design, experimental and exploratory methods. The results show that arthropods found in chili pepper plants grown in polyculture with rubber plants include 20 arthropod species. These 20 species consist of 1 spider species, 11 entomophagous insect species, and 8 phytophagous insect species. The spider species found is P. psuedoannuata. Meanwhile, the entomophagous insect species found include C. nigricans, C. transversalis, S. punctum, L. niger, P. longicarnis, O. subnatata, A. insita, C. columbiana, H. axyridis, C. terminale, and T. praeusta. The phytophagous insect species consist of I. galbula, B. dorsalis, A. gossypii, H. halys, H. talaca, A. lata, A. indica, and A. huebneri. The arthropod diversity index in chili pepper plants during the vegetative and generative phases is considered moderate, indicating a low level of ecosystem stability. The dominance index of arthropod species is classified as moderate, attributed to the relatively balanced number of species on chili pepper plants. The results of the evenness index analysis (E') show a high evenness value of arthropods in chili pepper plants during the vegetative phase, approaching 1, while during the generative phase, it is considered low. Additionally, the treatment of rice wash water (POC) significantly influences the height of chili pepper plants and produces the highest plant height among other treatments.
