Abstract

This study aims to describe the suitability of the speech in the Progresnya Berapa Persen novel of Soraya Nasution work with the principle of language politeness according to Geoffrey Leech and explain the implications of this study into Indonesian learning in high school. The research design used is qualitative and the type of descriptive approach. The research method used in this study is pragmatic through the perspective of Geoffrey Leech. The data source in this study is the Progresnya Berapa Persen novel of Soraya Nasution and the data is in the form of speech in the novel. The data collection technique used is to consider free and record. Data analysis techniques, namely using pragmatic analysis of the determining element. The result of this study is that there are a number of 130 data that are appropriate and not in accordance with the principle of language politeness according to Geoffrey Leech. Among them there are 87 speech in accordance with the principle of the politeness of Geoffrey Leech and 43 speech that is not in accordance with the principle of politeness in Geoffrey Leech. The results of this study can be applied in supporting Indonesian learning in high school.
