Abstract

The objective of the experiment was to evaluate the effect of package material and seed aging period on the seeds quality of jarak pagar (Jatropha curcas Linn.). The observation was conducted at Laboratorium of Seed Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya Univercity, started from March to June 2007. The experiment was arranged in Completely Randomized Block Design in factorial treatment with two factors and three replications. First factor was package material (K) that consisted of plastics package (Ki), package from ‘goni’ sack (K2), package from ‘blacu’ (K3), can (K4), and bottle (K5). The second factor was seed aging period (L) that consisted of one month (Li), two months (L2), three months (L3), and four months (L4). The observed parameters were seed moisture content (%), germination rate (% per day), seed germination (%), seedling dried weight (g), and deviation of seedling height (o2). The result showed that the package from ‘blacu’ (K3) gave the best result for seed quality than the other package, the seed aging period for one month (Li) gave the best result for seed quality, and combination between the package from ‘blacu’ (K3) with the seed aging period for four months (L4) gave the best result to seed germination.
