Abstract

Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang produces various kinds of fertilizer, one of them is Ammonia. Ammonia is formed by the reaction of natural gas, water and free air that processed in the Plant which is divided into several parts, namely feed treating, reforming, purification, synthesis loop, and refrigerant. Natural gas has flammable properties and in process of forming ammonia, ammonia reacted with heat and high pressure which have high risk of fire and explosion. Therefore, risk assessment is necessary to control the risk and to know the losses that will happen caused by fire and explosion. This study was a qualitative descriptive approach. The purpose of this study was to analyze and calculate the events and losses that will happen caused by fires and explosions using the Dow's Fire and Explosion Index method. Informants in this study consist of two key informants and six regular informants. The information collected by depth interviews, observation sheets, and document review based on Dow Fire and Dow Explosion Index guidelines. Risk level of fire and explosion in process unit is in severe category with the value of Fire and Explosion Index is 168 with exposure radius of 40.45 meters, exposed area 5137.67585 m2 , Value of exposure area is Rp 48.125.704.276,48. The damage factor value is 0.83. The value of base maximum probable property damage is Rp 39.944.334.549,478. The value of loss control credit factor is 0.69. The actual maximum probable property damage value is Rp 27.162.147.493.645. The maximum probable days outage 160 days and the value of business interruption is Rp 8.238.290.666.666, -. Risk level of fire and explosion is in severe category, so the control of risk is required on this research, such as make standard operation procedure on a script, add leakage and fire detector system, and make a good plan on next shelter/control room’s construction.
