Abstract

In the current era of technological advancement, the use of metals as primary components in various industries and daily life is inevitable. Aluminium, being one of the frequently chosen metals, stands out due to its strength, corrosion resistance, and lightness. This research explores the influence of T6 heat treatment on AA6061 Aluminium Alloy in the context of strength and fatigue resistance. The results show a significant increase in the strength and fatigue resistance of AA6061 Aluminium Alloy after T6 heat treatment. Test specimens subjected to T6 heat treatment exhibit substantially higher Fatigue Bending cycle values compared to those without heat treatment. The T6 heat treatment process results in the deposition of Mg2Si in the secondary phase, enhancing the strength, toughness, and hardness of the material. This occurs because the artificial aging process forms precipitate particles that enhance the strength and fatigue resistance of the material. Thus, T6 heat treatment demonstrates potential as an effective method to improve the mechanical properties of materials, supporting the development of more advanced and efficient technologies in the future. The increase in cycles for specimens subjected to T6 heat treatment is 14.67% for 3 hours, 32.06% for 5 hours, and 67.93% for 7 hours compared to specimens without heat treatment. In conclusion, T6 heat treatment provides a significant improvement in the strength and fatigue resistance of AA6061 Aluminium Alloy, emphasizing the importance of understanding the effects of heat treatment on materials in the development of future technologies.
