Abstract
Oil palm is very important crop producing fruit to be processed to make oil. Flowering wild plants growing in oil palm plantation could attract insects. This research was aimed at identifying species of insects visiting flowering wild plant in oil palm plantation. The research was conducted from August to October 2017 in oil palm plantation of Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The observation was conducted in the morning, afternoon and evening. The method applied was survey method. The results showed that there was seven species of flowering wild plants could grow dominantly in the experimental oil palm plantation of Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya Univesity, Indralaya. The seven species were Torenia fournieri, Angeratum conyzoides, Lantama camara, Stachytarpheta jamaicensis, Melastoma malabathricum, Chromolaena odorata, and Mimosa invisa. There were 21 insects species visiting the flowering plants. The insects mostly visited the plants in the morning. Eleven species of the 21 insect species were entomophagous and the other 10 species were phytophagous. The most attracting flowers to insect were compound flowers.
