Abstract

Carica papaya is known to reduce the quality of spermatozoa in rats. Papaya seed formulation in the form of SNE (Self-Nano Emulsion) is an alternative drug delivery system to increase bioavailability by lipophilic means. Papaya seed extract was characterized using GC-MS to see the compounds contained therein. Papaya seed extract was formulated into Self-nano emulsion and evaluated including pH, viscosity, particle size and polydispersity index. Tests on test animals used 18 rats which were divided into 3 groups, namely the normal group; positive group given papaya seed extract as much as 100 mg / kgBW and the treatment group given SNE papaya seed extract as much as 100 mg / kgBW, administration was carried out orally for 28 days. Examination of the quality of rat spermatozoa includes testicular weight, number of spermatozoa morphology, motility, viability, gonadosomatic index, FSH, LH and testicular histology. Data analysis using One Way ANOVA test and multivariate analysis with Minitab. The results of the analysis showed that the observed parameters were significantly different with the results (p < 0.05) between treatment groups. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the administration of papaya seed ethanol extract and papaya seed SNE extract significantly reduces the quality of spermatozoa
