Abstract

Increasing the productivity of tea plants in Indonesia requires technological innovation in cultivation. One effort that can be made is intensification in the existing area with the application of technology and optimization of tea plantation land. However, it should be noted that fertilization can affect the accumulation of heavy metals in the soil and plant system. Heavy metals such as Lead (Pb) can have a negative effect on chlorophyll because they are mostly accumulated by plant organs such as roots, stems, leaves, and the soil around the plant. The Pagaralam Tea Plantation in South Sumatra is one of the tea plantations in Indonesia that has a total tea plantation area of 1,523 ha. The processed tea products from this plantation are black tea and green tea, which are used to meet local needs and for export. One of the factors that can affect the growth of tea plants is the presence of heavy metals, one of which is lead (Pb). Therefore, it is necessary to know the content of lead (Pb) in the roots and leaves of tea plants at PTPN VII Unit Pagaralam, Sumatera Selatan. The research results show that the roots and leaves of tea plants at PTPN VII Unit Pagaralam contain heavy metal Lead (Pb). The metal content in the roots of tea plants has an average of 0.112 ± 0.049 mg kg-1 and the metal content in tea leaves has an average of 0.160 ± 0.075 mg kg-1. However, the heavy metal Lea d (Pb) in the roots and leaves of tea plants is still not exceeding the threshold value set for tea at 2.0 mg kg-1. Keywords: Heavy Metals, Tea, Lead
