Abstract

The river estuary area is used as a productive land for traditional pond cultivation, especially in Simpang Tiga Jaya Village, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency who is dominated by polyculture ponds. The development of pond cultivation by cutting down mangroves has an impact on natural damage, so restoration efforts are needed in ponds using the Silvofishery method. The Silvofishery system is the planting of mangrove seedlings which are planted in pond areas as a conservation effort so that ecological and economic aspects side by side. This study aims to compare the water quality and productivity in cultivation activities between the Pedada River and Kong River. The research was conducted on July-August 2023, employing questionnaire methods and direct measurements of water quality parameters. The water quality in both Silvofishery and Non Silvofishery polyculture pond systems is still deemed suitable for polyculture, especially for Tiger Prawns (Panaeus monodon) and Milkfish (Chanos Chanos Forskall). The productivity of harvests from Silvofishery pond systems is higher, with the result for Tiger Prawns being 118 kg/ha and for Milkfish being 381 kg/ha, compared to Non Silvofishery ponds, where the result for Tiger Prawns is 86.9 kg/ha and for Milkfish is 116.5 kg/ha. The Silvofishery pond harvest for Milkfish is more effective in the Kong River at 400 kg/ha, whereas for Tiger Prawns, it is more effective in the Pedada River with a result of 155 kg/ha. The harvest from Non Silvofishery ponds for Milkfish is higher in the Pedada River at 143.5 kg/ha, while for Tiger Prawns, it is higher in the Kong River with a result of 105 kg/ha.
