Abstract

Mustard is one of the vegetables that has many vitamins such as folate, carotenoids, and vitamins A, C, E, and K which are beneficial for human health. Increasing mustard production can be done by utilizing areas with minimal light intensity due to shading such as annual crops, urban gardens, and provision of paranet shade. The use of shade is one of the efforts to regulate the intensity of sunlight that can create environmental conditions suitable for mustard growth. Shade cultivation is a vegetable planting technique that can overcome the problems associated with planting on open land and also to optimize the intensity of sunlight received by plants so that it will greatly affect various plant activities. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of shade tolerance to the growth and yield of mustard greens and determine mustard varieties that are tolerant of minimum light conditions. This research was conducted in the experimental field using artifical in June - July 2023. This study used a divided plot design method with 2 factors. Shade rates as the main plot consisted of N_0%, N_55%, N_70%, and N_90%. Varieties as subplots consisted of tosakan and kumala varieties. The results of the study using the level of shade decreased the growth and yield of mustard plants, but at 55% shade, the growth and yield of mustard plants increased. Keywords : Artifical shading, light intrnsity, suboptimal
